How to Join
Memorization

We welcome new members from all areas of the Metro Detroit community. Don't let the name fool you, only less than half our membership is comprised of current or former GM employees and spouses/family of GM employees. The only absolute requirement is that you be 18 years of age or older and have a love of singing.

How to Join

Simply come to one of our first three rehearsals of the season. The Fall season begins the Monday after Labor Day in September, and the Spring season begins the second Monday after New Year's Day in January. We rehearse in the choir rehearsal room of Lincoln High School, 22900 Federal Avenue, Warren, Michigan (MAP ) on Monday nights starting at 6:45 p.m. You will get a sense of what our music is like and how rehearsals are run. Then meet up with our director for a little one-on-one, which will include finding your range and exploring your general musical abilities. It is not an "audition" in the traditional sense; just a session where you can share what you have to offer and ask any questions you may have. Then the director will place you in the section that suits you best and make sure you get on the membership roster. Membership fees are always waived for your first season of membership.

Memorization

One of the defining features of this amateur choir is that it memorizes all music for concerts. If you're considering membership in our group and are questioning your ability to memorize roughly 90 minutes of music for concerts, consider a few things:

  1. Most of the current members, who have varying levels of musical ability, are all willing to help and assist new members in this area, so don't hesitate to ask.
  2. Singers have the option of bringing recording devices to rehearsals, and there are even two rehearsal days every season that are specifically set aside for everyone to record the entire program, top to bottom. (In some cases study CD's can also be recorded for any specific voice part to aid in score study.)
  3. The end result of memorization is that we can perform a concert giving full attention to the director as well as to the audience, who benefit greatly from our direct connection with them.
